What flip flops & sandals celebrities are wearing this summer

We've been checking out what's hot in the way of flip flops and sandals (on the red carpet and beyond), snooping on celebrity feet for inspiration.

Wimbledon - a time when you'll spot some famous faces around and the perfect time to gain some inspiration! Fashion writer and make-up artist Tanya Burr was pictured earlier last week at Wimbledon, wearing a khaki onesie and caramel brown strapped sandals. Close matching neutral colours look great, even if you're not as tanned as you might want to be !

You can pick up a pair of long-lasting good quality strap sandals without having to spend a fortune from brands like Animal and Roxy.

Kim Kardashian pictured above is often pictured with flip flops, whether it’s on the beach or out to dinner. She favors a pair of Havaianas when on the road, showing us that flip flops can be the casual piece of footwear that they're known for but that this doesn't have to detract from looking chic - it's all about accessorising and colour coordinating.

So if you want to look a million dollars on a night out but don't want to make the compromise on walking around on stilts, try a pair of sandals or flip flops that have a subtle embellishment to make you stand out. And if you really want to stand out and bring the glamour, why not try some nail varnish? Kim's choice of red is a classic choice with her black flip flops, though there's nothing wrong with more audacious colour combinations.

Bollywood star Esha Guptar (pictured above) rocks the smart casual look with her simple black flip flops, like the little dress, they're an essential piece of footwear for everyone's wardrobe this summer.

Sandals still continue to be a classic choice for comfort and style combined, (worn below by) American actress Jessica Lowndes, who looks stunning in her flat gladiator style sandals in a neutral brown colour with some simple and elegant embellishments.

At only 5ft4 Jessica isn't the tallest, showing us that even celebrities can function without a heel on a day out. However, If you like what Jessica is sporting but would perhaps like a bit of extra height, FitFlop make a neutral coloured selection with a reasonable wedge that still allows you to walk comfortably and look great and the embellishments aren't dissimilar to hers either. Her red, white and black block coloured dress is smart and compliments the shoe well - you don't have to make up for a simpler-looking shoe with overcomplicated clothing - it's all about balance and (cliché coming up) less is always more! If you want to match up and find the more classic shoe, FitFlop Lulu offer a plain black alternative, also with a wedge - who needs heels?!

During festival season in the UK, it's customary and essential to pack a pair of wellies to brave our ever-changing weather! Though it can be a nightmare on the scorchio days when you wish you could give your poor feet some air! It's not like sandals take up much room in your festival bag. Style icon Alexa Cheung brought glamour and hippy to Cochella festival earlier this year, topping her outfit off with a simple pair of strapped sandals (see pictured below) which high-street surf retailer Animal offer an elegant selection of.

It’s good to see that even celebrities ditch the designer brands for high street flip flop and sandal retailers!
