Get your feet ready for summer

Every summer we start to prepare ourselves for the season ahead. We get a tan, buy a new outfit and a pair of flip flops, and we book a holiday somewhere warm and sandy. One thing many of us overlook is our feet, either because we think it takes too much effort or no one will notice anyway.

But trust me, people do notice, especially when you’re rocking your favourite flip flops or most comfortable sandals. And even if they don’t, giving your feet a bit of TLC can have an effect on your overall mood and confidence when walking about.

Getting your feet summer-ready doesn’t have to be unpleasant or costly. It can be a relaxing ritual along with the rest of our summer prep.

How to Get Your Feet Summer-ready

  1. Firstly, if you’ve got one, bring out the foot spa and fill it with hot water and foot salts. Stick your feet in and relax for a little! Maybe use this time to choose what colour you’re going to paint your nails, have a coffee or read something. If you don’t have a foot spa, soak your feet in hot water, and exfoliate. Once you’re out of the bath and your feet are dry, you’re going to have to get the Pedi Egg out. Give your feet a good scrub, focusing on the heels. Clean your feet and apply heel balm if you’ve got it.
  2. If your nails need a little tidying up, trim and shape them with a nail file.
  3. Time to paint your nails! This is where the real fun begins, but also where you have to be the most patient. Apply a base coat to your nails, then apply two coats of your favourite colour, followed by a topcoat, allowing each coat to dry fully before applying the next one. You might like to try some of the latest nail trends, like magnetic polish, textured nails and press on nail covers. Seeing as your feet will be on show, why not experiment with some embellishments?
  4. Accessorise! If want to add a bit of bling and glamour, why not accessorise your look with an anklet or a toe ring?

Tips

  • If you’re looking for inspiration for nail art, have a look on Pinterest for images or YouTube for tutorials.
  • If you want to keep your look low maintenance, a nude colour or a french manicure works well. Or just a clear varnish.
  • You might also want to invest in a few products to keep you going through the summer - foot spray or foot deodorants are great for hot days, intensive foot creams are ideal for when you’ve been in heels all day (try applying the cream in the evening and popping on a pair of socks to get the best results) and a couple of blister plasters are good for when a new pair of shoes are rubbing a little.
